What is so great about this?
What is so great about being a transwoman? This is a
rather extraordinary inclination, though too often misunderstood and damned.
After all, I am tampering with nature, notwithstanding, that there are endless
accounts of transgenderism in the animal world that conveniently get edited
out of textbooks, because too many people are afraid to show that life is actually
unbounded. Social science is not real science, and I am living proof of that.
My first pass at this page listed all the disadvantages
of being a transwoman (and the are a lot of them), but that made the whole page
a downer, so I will jump right into the advantages.
The Advantages of Being a Transwoman
- Though trans-people have fallen from grace, I am still one of the
chosen people. I am required to make good use of this gift, not to sit at
home feeling ashamed of myself. This is like a super power, which I must use
wisely and responsibly.
- I can rise above common notions of courage; the average man is simply
incapable wandering around in public as a woman. I cannot be emasculated.
- I am a shy, introverted, timid techie, but I can
escape from this rut. Though people claim I am bold and brazen, I am just
being myself. People tell me I am incredibly intelligent (albeit eccentric);
I just require the proper (creative) ways to express myself.
- I see a reality than scarcely anyone else can comprehend,
filled with wonder and self-discovery. I have great spiritual insight. In
the context of my Native American (Ojibwa) ancestry, I am an Agokwa,
a two-spirit person.
- I have become unstuck from gender and no longer live
my life in roles. I do not see the conventional differences between men and
women; I only see a fantastic opportunity for enlightenment and exploration.
- I can do something useful, by fighting for the civil-rights
of the most oppressed persons in our society: gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders,
and women.
- I can have a special relationship with all the women
I adore. Not only can I admire them, but I can also put myself in their place.
While I cannot experience the actual reality of a genetic woman, I can come
much closer than most males.
- I no longer have to be a Man Stuck on Stupid.
By being a transwoman, I am allowed to think outside the box. Some annoying
male habits are hard to eradicate, but I can rise above most of the baggage
that was instilled into me by my upbringing and by my culture.
- I can be unique. It is highly unlikely that I would
encounter anyone else in public dressed like me. I can wear colors and color-combinations
that males cannot even dream about. I can always look smartly dressed, no
matter how plain the clothing might be.
- I can carry so much more with me. Purses are incredibly
convenient and have plenty of room for a wallet and much more.
- I am not bothered by inconveniently-high levels of
testosterone. My skin looks better, and I am likely to live longer. Life experiences
are more enjoyable without the biting sense of urgency.
- Relationships work better, especially when I give up the need to
win or to say the last word. Thinking like a woman can bring fresh solutions
to complex social issues. All those problems in life that cannot actually
be solved can be handled with fresh insight.
- Not only can I write computer programs, but I can actually reprogram
myself. I do not have to be this or that, but I can pick and choose. Transformation
is a basic feature of life, and I am able to transform myself into something
better.
